Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center recently received a $2,000 grant
from the International Paper Foundation in support of the Eco Tech Minute, a
weekly segment airing Wednesdays at 7:33 a.m. on Red River Radio (KDAQ 89.9
FM).
The Eco Tech
Minute is a joint initiative of Sci-Port and the International Paper Foundation
to educate the public on environmental innovations and sustainability. Topics
are developed by Lou Papai,
Sci-Port's Director of Public Programs, in coordination with Amy Hood,
International Paper's GIS Analyst. The segments are voiced by Eric Gipson, Sci-Port's Public Relations
Manager.
Sustainability
involves humans and the natural world; it is the idea that a responsible use of
natural resources warrants the potential for humans to engage in a long-term
continuance of wellbeing. Recent Eco Tech Minute topics have included: the
significance of forestry to Louisiana's economy; new sources for ethanol
production; and new methods for converting excess heat into
electricity.
